1. Do we pay the nanny or the agency? The family pays the nanny directly on an agreed hourly rate or wage in the interview when you meet the nanny. Please go back to the Home Page and click on the  link to Wage line QLD as this may help when making a decision as to what to pay the nanny. Payroll 4 Families is also a link on our Home Page. 2. Who pays the tax and super? This is to be discussed in the interview with nanny. Some families prefer to pay this and others find it a hassle. In this case the nanny would be responsible themselves and be working as a sub contractor under their own ABN. Please see the link on our Home Page under Payroll 4 Families. 3. Do we pay holidays, sick days and public holidays? Again this is to be discussed in the interview with the nanny. Certainly if a nanny is working as a permanent or a full time nanny the family should pay the nanny the 4 weeks annual holidays, 10 sick days and public holidays if it falls on a day the nanny is rostered to work.

4. What happens if the nanny is sick? The nanny should call you
directly as early a practical and let you know they are sick. If you
need someone for that particular day/time the nanny is absent, by all
means remember call us and we will endeavour to supply you one of our
fill in nannies/babysitters at a cost of $18 per hour and a $22 booking
fee.

5. What if we, the family, go on holidays. Do we still pay the nanny? This question comes up time and time again and there is no hard and fast rule. We recommend that this issue be raised and discussed at the time the offer of employment is made along with rates of pay etc. Some families and nannies coincide their holidays so the family is not put
out and neither is the nanny. Don’t forget this is the nannies income
and the nanny has living expenses, mortgage or rent to pay and like all
employed people they rely heavily on their income.

6. What is the role of the nanny? What can a nanny do? Nannies can basically do what you ask them to within reason. Nannies do almost everything related to the children such as:

Ø Prepare and cook meals throughout the day for the children

Ø Some families and nannies like the idea of keeping a daily or weekly record as to the day’s events or what is planned for the week as a means of communication

Ø Bathing

Ø Keep children’s area tidy, safe and clean

Ø Light household duties such as children’s laundry (some nannies may do the families laundry but this is not a responsibility of the nanny), unloading and packing the dishwasher, take rubbish out, vacuum and mop only where the children have eaten or been playing (not the whole house).

Ø Change children’s linen and towels

Ø Ironing of the children’s clothes only (again some nannies may do the family ironing but this is not a responsibly of the nanny)

Ø Run errands such as groceries; pick up/drop off dry cleaning

Ø Organising daily/weekly or term activities for children. This may include after school activities, music lessons, swimming or gym lessons, story time at the library, playgroups or just a trip to the park

Ø Organise educational home activities such as puzzles, reading, and arts and crafts, painting, drawing, ball games, building blocks, playing outside and more.

Ø Always remember to discuss with the nanny in there interview what their exact role is and what you are looking for so as the nanny is aware of your expectations before starting.

7. What happens if the nanny leaves after a short time with us?If the nanny leaves within 6 weeks of starting we will find you a replacement with no extra cost to you. If you find the nanny is not fitting into your family within the 6 weeks call us so we can search for a replacement at no cost to you (this can only happen once though). If the nanny is to leave after a number of months we do start the process again and you will incur a placement fee relevant to the hours you seek a nanny for. 8. Do we pay any insurance? We recommend you pay workers compensation through Work Cover QLD. It is the ‘Domestic Household Insurance Policy’ This will last 2 years and costs approx $35. This will also cover you for babysitters, cleaners, pool cleaners, gardeners, anyone working domestically in your home. Please see the Home Page and click on the link to the Work Cover QLD website. 9. Who supplies the car for the nanny? You may choose to allow the nanny to use the family car in which we recommend you check your insurance details and add the nanny to the policy; otherwise the nanny can use their car. They may charge you each kilometre they drive, registering the kilometers in a log book. This price varies however an approx is 0.65 cents per kilometer which pays for the wear and tear on the car and also the fuel.
