Fresh after our trip to the Gold Coast for the annual Australian Nanny Association (ANA) conference, I was curious to investigate the fabulous family picnic spots that are available to visit in this region. I was amazed by the abundance of options! So get the red checker blanket, picnic basket and sunscreen ready and check out my top 5 family picnic destinations below:
Mt Tamborine Botanic Gardens: Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens is nestled in a valley covering 11 hectares with combined plantings of sub-tropical and cool temperate exotic plants and natural sub-tropical rainforest. We suggest that you settle in for the day, have a picnic and enjoy this much-needed break from the summer heat.
Budds Beach: If you are looking to escape to somewhere quiet, then Budds Beach is the place for you. Positioned on the Nerang River, Budds Beach is a river beach centrally located just of the Gold Coast Highway, Ferny Avenue. There are picnic facilities as well as a cute café across the road. We suggest dropping in for a summer ice-cream while you are there! Double scoop Cookies and Cream coming up!
Justin’s Park – Burleigh: Situated on the beautiful Burleigh foreshore, Justin’s Park is the perfect park for families to head to any day of the week. The park has been well thought out with ample picnic tables and park benches as well as the open stretch of green to fold out the checker red and black blanket and relax.
Hinze Dam, Advancetown: A 20 minute drive from Broadbeach is all it will take to get you and your family to Hinze Dam, Advancetown. Set in the beautiful hinterland you will enjoy the lush and majestic surroundings and appreciate the much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. For families there is a functioning BBQ area and a fun kids playground as well as the opportunity to see how the Dam works.
Currumbin Rock Pools, Currumbin Valley: Set in the Currumbin Valley, this is one of the Gold Coast’s best kept secrets. There are countless shaded picnic spots as well as fresh water rock pools for the whole family to enjoy on a blistering Gold Coast summer day.
